Royal County Down is located in Country Down, the southern most county before crossing into the Republic of Ireland. Against the incredible backdrop of the Mountains of Mourne, the links stretches along the coastline, waggling back and forth to provide a different view from every hole.
This course requires precision as the thick gorse will catch out ever the best player. The rough is harsh and unforgiving, if there is wind coming off the Irish sea this will be even trickier.
The ninth hole is one of the most photographed golf holes in the world. A 486 yard par 4, it is played from one side of a huge mound down to a fairway some 60ft below and 260 yards from the tee.
The course has been ranked by golf digest as one of the best in the world, last year taking the top spot. This is often a players favourite, playing twice here is highly recommended.
